Short music inspired thought today.
I have great respect for people who have the ability to follow-thru on a course of action, even if I do not necissarily agree with that action. The ability to affect concious change in your life and in the world around you should be celebrated, regardless of the ‘rightness’ of the change.
Take the character Fancy.
A young girl, growing up poor in the South with the dream of one day marrying her way to wealth and influence. Armed with nothing more than looks and determination she succeeds, and is proud of her success despite her critics.
Should we think less of her accomplishment simply because we do not agree with her goal? To become the wife of a wealthy s
outhern gentleman is, perhaps, not the independent inspiring future we would wish for our daughters, nieces, or friends, but in my mind that does not give us any reason to look down on Fancy.
The story told in this song is one of grit and determination, truly admirable character traits.
Plus, it’s a damn fine tune. 😉
